A First for Telecom Foundation: Healthcare on Wheels for Underserved Communities
18 September 2026 marked an important milestone in the history of Telecom Foundation. For the very first time, we are taking healthcare facilities on the road to reach underserved and far-flung communities, bringing essential medical services closer to the doorsteps of those who need them most.
To mark this significant initiative, Telecom Foundation and @Impact Foundation Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Islamabad Club for the launch of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Initiative.
The MoU was signed by Syed Zomma Mohiuddin, President & CEO, Telecom Foundation, and Ms. Rabiya Mansour, President, Impact Foundation Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by senior management of Telecom Foundation, including Ms. Atifa Ehsan, GM Social Welfare & EVP Admin & HR; Ms. Aliya Fazil, EVP Finance & Company Secretary; Syed Tashfeen Tabish, MBA, BE Electrical Engg, GM Business Development; Mr. Saad Khan, GM IT, and other team members. From Impact Foundation Pakistan, Mr. Hamid Ali, Vice President, along with his team, and Prof. Mohammad Azam, CEO Devotion, were also present.
Special appreciation goes to Mr. Muhammad Abuzar (BSc Pharm.D MPH), Sr. Manager Development Health, Telecom Foundation, for his dedicated efforts, coordination, and commitment in making this important initiative and collaboration possible.
The Mobile Health Unit Initiative is a step towards breaking barriers to healthcare by taking essential medical services beyond conventional facilities and closer to communities that have limited access to healthcare. In addition to providing healthcare services through the mobile platform, Telecom Foundation is bringing its expertise in digital health and ICT-enabled healthcare to the initiative. The Foundation has trained doctors and healthcare professionals in digital health implementation, supporting the integration of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), telemedicine, digital patient records, and digital referral linkages to facilitate more connected and efficient healthcare delivery.
By combining healthcare on wheels with digital health solutions, the initiative aims to strengthen continuity of care, facilitate access to specialist consultations, improve patient record management and enable timely referrals, helping bridge the gap between underserved communities and the wider healthcare system.
Healthcare should reach people wherever they are.
Together, we are taking healthcare on the road — towards a healthier and more inclusive Pakistan.
